Two diamond dealers nabbed

TWO men from Borrowdale in Harare who were arrested last month after they were found in illegal possession of six pieces of diamonds appeared before a Mutare Magistrates’ Court this week.
Landwell Kanyerere, 33, and James Kavhira, 33, appeared before magistrate, Sekai Chiwundura, facing charges of possessing diamonds without a licence as required by the Mines and Minerals Act.
The two denied the charges and were remanded out of custody on $100 bail with stringent conditions.
They were ordered not to interfere with State witnesses and report to Borrowdale police station once every fortnight.
Public prosecutor, Cuthbert Bhosha, told the court that on July 18 this year, at around 8pm, the two parked their car at Mutsago Business Centre.
A Mbada Diamonds staff bus came and dropped workers at the centre where the accused were parking their vehicle.
The two suspects reportedly picked up an unidentified man and disappeared.
However, they were being watched by two police officers who were on patrol. The officers alerted their colleagues at 22 Miles tollgate who intercepted the vehicle.
A search was conducted by the police officers and six pieces of diamonds were found in Kavhira’s jacket.
The court was told that after interrogations by security officers the two revealed that they had received the stones from one Thomas in Harare who owns a mine in Mutoko.
