Enter Fashion and Music Show

Bukola Smart, a 17-year-old Nigerian student based in the United Kingdom, is set to make a big impact in Nigeria’s fashion and music scene with the establishment of The Fashion and Music Entertainment, FAME 2014 concert, a creative initiative designed to encourage continuous growth and development of the Nigerian entertainment and fashion industry.

Set to debut in December 2014 in Lagos, FAME is a blend of fashion and music on the runway and it is designed to showcase and encourage the abundant talent and human resources in the country’s music and fashion industry and more importantly, to discover the next generation of stars in the music and fashion business.

According to Smart, who is studying Accounting and Finance in the University of Reading and a long-term fashion enthusiast, the objective of the project is to promote fashion and support growth in the music industry by discovering talents who can stand the test of time.

“Fashion and music are always a great blend as we have seen in many different concerts, but the difference is that FAME brings exclusivity, style and class to the business. It gives the participants not only chances to show what they do best, but gives them the opportunity to be scouted or recruited to kick off a bright career. Therefore, FAME serves as a platform of career opportunities and brings about the reality of dreams,” the organiser of the event said.

According to Segun Bankole, AGM Corporate Communications and Branding, Sovereign Trust Insurance, “We are a part of this event because it is in tandem with our corporate values of innovation, integrity, professionalism and team spirit. Bukkie Smart represents an innovative youth and we are proud to be associated with her.”

Designed in the form of a reality show, contestants in the fashion category would be judged based on originality, creativity, modelling skills, style and modernisation, while those in the music category would be judged on lyrics, beat, originality, audibility, and delivery.
Meanwhile, few weeks after forms went on sale, indications have emerged that it is already generating immeasurable excitement among Nigerian youths desirous of a career in fashion and music. This much was revealed by the brain behind the project.

According to her, “We are genuinely enthused by the response F.A.M.E has generated among young Nigerians since we started selling the forms. I didn’t realise that an idea I conceived to change the way things were done in the fashion and music industries which I am passionate about, would be the catalyst for thousands of young Nigerians who want to be music and fashion stars.”

Entry form for the event, which has been on sale from July, she said, is in two categories - fashion and music and submitted applications would be thoroughly scrutinised and successful applicants would be shortlisted for training and audition which would be the utmost pre-condition for qualification into the finals of the event.

Smart disclosed that the training and audition sessions would entail all shortlisted applicants in the two categories converging daily at a designated location where they would be engaged by professional instructors. Only the best five in each of the two categories would converge at the grand finale where the winner of the star prize of N1million for each category would be chosen.
She said unlike other competitions, all finalists would each receive consolation prizes. Entry forms and registration details are available on the FAME website and are open to anyone in any part of Nigeria and even beyond.
